Background
Dr. Demetris Nicolaides was born and raised in Lemesos and studied Medicine at Semmelweis University of Medicine in Budapest, Hungary. He then worked at the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre, in Nicosia, before moving to England, where he lived and worked for 17 years.
Dr. Nicolaides obtained his specialty training in General Medicine in England. He worked in oncology, gastroenterology, and geriatrics with dementia/stroke, intensive-care unit, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology. He completed his training in General Medicine and successfully passed the MRCGP exam.
He became a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners in the UK. He worked as a General Practitioner partner for 11 years, in a sizeable training Medical Practice with 13,500 patients. He was privileged to train general practitioners and 5th-year medical students. He was the clinical lead in palliative care, attending to patients in their final stage of illness.
In England, Dr. Nicolaides achieved a vast work experience in various specialties as a General Practitioner, some of which included: geriatrics, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, ENT, gynecology, psychiatry, pediatrics, minor surgery, respiratory, nephrology, dermatology, urology, and cardiology.
He developed a special interest in Chronic Pain Management and worked for 11 years as a member of a Multidisciplinary team in Secondary Care, in a teaching hospital in Durham (with neurosurgeons, rheumatologists, anaesthesiologists, physiotherapists, pain-specialist nurses, occupational therapists, and clinical psychologists).
Dr. Nicolaides recently moved back to his hometown in Lemesos, Cyprus, and opened his surgery as a personal doctor to patients from 15 years and above.
As a primary care physician, he deals with the treatment and prevention of chronic diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidaemia, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
